Media Diversity Australia’s Summer Scholarships

MDA is calling for expressions of interest from journalism students in their final or second last year of media/communications who are keen to get industry experience at a mainstream media outlet over the summer break.
The purpose of the project is the place five journalism students from three tertiary institutions at five different mainstream media outlets.
The scholarship recipients will receive a weekly stipend to cover living expenses for the duration of the scholarship.
The seven week scholarship will take place during the summer university break in January/February 2020, on a full-time basis.
Scholarships commence on Monday January 6th and conclude on Friday 21st February.
The scholarship recipients will be mentored and supported by an MDA project manager.
MDA has partnered with Griffith University, RMIT and UTS for the program.
Scholarships will take place at one outlet for the duration of the placement
Participating media organisations where scholarship recipients will be placed include New York Times, Courier Mail, Network 10, and Nine Entertainment Co
HOW TO APPLY
Applicants need to be final year communications/media students (entering final year of study in 2020).
Communications/media students from Griffith University, RMIT or UTS can apply by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line EOI Summer Scholarship.
In 500 words or less please tell us a bit about you, any media industry experience you’ve had, what media mediums you are most interested in working, and why you should be an MDA summer scholar.
Please also attach a CV and one written reference.
Applicants may wish to include if they speak a language other than English, identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, were born overseas, or have a parent born overseas, or live with a disability.
Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday 30th October and successful candidates will be announced in late November after an interview process.
